Disqualification

There are very few automatic bases for rejection. Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft, or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals “fail” background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-relevant information from their prospective employer.

BOTTOM LINE: You are responsible for providing complete, accurate, and truthful responses.

Spoiler: show
Shane Turnbow was born and raised in Los Santos, where the rhythm of life was predictable and he was rooted in strong values. His father, a factory worker, and his mother, a nurse, instilled in him a sense of duty and responsibility from a young age. The family often gathered around the dinner table to share stories of their day, where honesty and hard work were celebrated.
From an early age, Shane exhibited a strong sense of justice. He was the kid who would stand up for classmates being bullied and often played the role of peacemaker among his friends. After high school, he felt a pull toward something greater than himself and enlisted in the Marine Corps. The decision was both a desire to serve his country and an opportunity to escape the limitations of small-town life.
During his six years in the Marines, Shane became a military police officer. He thrived in the structured environment, where his natural leadership abilities and dedication to duty were honed. He quickly earned a reputation for his integrity and fairness, often going the extra mile to resolve conflicts and maintain order. His time overseas was a mix of camaraderie and intense experiences, where he learned the weight of responsibility and the cost of decisions made in the line of duty.
However, the reality of military life took its toll. Shane faced moments of doubt, especially during his deployment to a war zone, where the stark realities of violence and loss clashed with his ideals of justice. He witnessed situations that challenged his beliefs and forced him to confront the gray areas of morality. Upon returning home, the adjustment to civilian life was not easy. The close bonds he formed with fellow Marines contrasted sharply with the loneliness he sometimes felt in his hometown.
After being honorably discharged at 24, Shane found himself at a crossroads. The transition to civilian life proved challenging, as he struggled to reintegrate into a world that often felt mundane compared to the intensity of his military experience. He started applying for jobs as a Law Enforcement Officer at a local department, hoping to maintain a sense of purpose while figuring out his next steps.
Despite the challenges, Shane is committed to serving others. He began volunteering at a local community center, mentoring at-risk youth and sharing his experiences in hopes of guiding them away from paths of violence and crime. His charisma and genuine care for others made him a role model.
As he navigates life in his late twenties, Shane seeks to reconcile his past experiences with his hopes for the future. He dreams of becoming a police officer, inspired by his time as a military police officer, and is determined to approach the role with the empathy and understanding he gained from his service. Yet, he knows that the journey will require him to confront his own scars and learn to trust again.
Shane's story is one of resilience, transformation, and the pursuit of purpose in a world that can often feel unwelcoming. With each challenge he faces, he is learning to embrace vulnerability and use his experiences to make a positive impact, both on himself and those around him.
