  • This document must be filled out electronically and printed.

  • By submitting this form, you affirm that you have read and understood the Essential Job Functions and Selection Requirements of the position applied for.

Disqualification

There are very few automatic bases for rejection. Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft, or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals “fail” background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-relevant information from their prospective employer.

BOTTOM LINE: You are responsible for providing complete, accurate, and truthful responses.

My name is Dante Crowley. I’m 22 years old, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve been trying to stay on the right path in a world that doesn’t always make that easy. The idea of becoming a Deputy Sheriff wasn’t some childhood phase or passing thought—it’s been a constant in my life, something that grew stronger with each year as I watched the world around me change, and realized I wanted to be someone who could make a difference.

I grew up in the southern part of town, in a neighborhood where hearing sirens was more common than silence, and law and order often felt like something distant. My father left when I was barely four, and my mother worked three jobs just to keep us afloat. I never had much. No fancy birthdays, no vacations, no shortcuts. But what I did have was the hunger to be something more—not just for myself, but for those around me.

I still remember one afternoon when I was about ten. I was playing outside our building when a fight broke out down the street. Most people walked by or looked the other way. But one Sheriff Deputy showed up-alone, calm, confident. He didn’t yell, didn’t use force. He just talked, and somehow everyone listened. That image stuck with me, not because he looked tough, but because he made people feel safe. That’s when it really clicked. That’s who I want to be.

Growing up the way I did didn’t break me-it pushed me to grow up faster. I stayed out of trouble, focused on school, stayed active, volunteered when I could. I knew that if I wanted to earn the badge one day, I had to prove myself long before I ever put it on. I didn’t have role models in my family, so I found them in principles-respect, discipline, justice.

Now, at 22, I feel mentally ready for the next step. I want to be part of something bigger than myself. I don’t want the badge for power—I want it for purpose. I want to be the person someone can count on in a moment of fear or chaos, the same way I once needed someone to look up to.

To me, the Sheriff’s Department isn’t just a job. It’s a commitment, a way of life. I know the responsibility that comes with the uniform, and I’m not here to play games. I’m ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to give this my all. I’m not afraid of the hard days-that’s exactly why I want this.

All I ask is for a chance to prove that I belong here. If you give me that, I won’t need a second one.
