OPERATION SAFE STREETS AND SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT BUREAU TRACK DOWN ARMED SUSPECTS IN ATTEMPTED MURDER OF LSPD DETECTIVE
OPERATION SAFE STREETS AND SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT BUREAU TRACK DOWN ARMED SUSPECTS IN ATTEMPTED MURDER OF LSPD DETECTIVE
On June 1, 2025, at approximately 12:00 am, detectives from the Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department’s Operation Safe Streets Bureau assumed investigative responsibility in connection with the attempted murder of a Los Santos Police Department Gang and Narcotics Division detective.
The investigation, led by OSS Detective Ivan Moncada, revealed that three armed suspects had targeted and opened fire on the LSPD detective, who was operating an unmarked law enforcement vehicle at the time of the attack. Critical evidence, including dashcam footage from the detective’s vehicle (DCIV) and corroborating witness statements, enabled OSS to identify all three suspects.
On June 2, 2025, OSS deputies encountered one of the identified suspects, Anthony Carvallo, during a traffic stop which escalated into a felony vehicle stop on 38th Street and King's Avenue, El Corona. As deputies engaged, Carvallo’s passenger fled on foot and discharged a firearm at responding units, prompting an immediate tactical response. The suspect-passenger was struck by return fire. Mr. Carvallo subsequently fled on foot and barricaded himself in a nearby structure by El Corona Flats.
The Special Enforcement Bureau, including the Crisis Negotiations Team, responded to the scene. After sustained negotiations, Mr. Carvallo surrendered peacefully to SEB personnel. He was taken into custody without further incident and was found to be in possession of an unlicensed semi-automatic handgun.
During the ongoing investigation, SEB personnel also located and intercepted suspect Alvaro Colon, who had been captured on DCIV footage actively pursuing and firing upon the LSPD detective during the June 1 ambush. Upon contact by SEB, Colon attempted to flee but was ultimately apprehended. He, too, was armed at the time of his arrest.
Both suspects were booked for Attempted Murder on a Peace Officer, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer and Possession of Unlicensed Firearms.
The Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department commends the professionalism and resolve of the OSS detectives, SEB operators, and Crisis Negotiations Team members whose efforts ensured the safe apprehension of both armed suspects. The Department makes clear that any act of violence against peace officers is an attack on public safety itself and will be met with unwavering pursuit and the full weight of the law. We do not and will never tolerate those who target or attempt to kill law enforcement personnel.
