LSSD Deputies Killed in Gang Activity - OSS Detectives Arrest Gang Member Following Deadly Ambush

On May 28, 2025 Detectives assigned to the Operation Safe Streets (OSS) Bureau observed a fatal shooting carried out by a known member of the 38th Street Gang. The suspect was seen using a handgun to kill the male victim. Deputies responded rapidly to the scene and issued multiple verbal commands directing the suspect to drop the firearm and surrender himself. Shortly thereafter, multiple affiliates of the 38th Street Gang arrived and opened fire on responding Deputies.
Three Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department Deputies sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the incident. OSS detectives later identified four suspects believed to be directly involved in the deadly ambush.
On June 1, 2025, Deputies responded to reports of high-caliber gunfire near Artesia Street. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered an unmarked Los Santos Police Department (LSPD) vehicle at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that members of the 38th Street Gang attempted to murder an LSPD Detective. LSSD units found the Detective in stable condition.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., OSS Detectives, along with personnel from the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and Central Patrol Division (CPD), initiated a coordinated tactical operation to serve multiple search and arrest warrants related to the May 28th and June 1st incidents.
Five residential locations and one vehicle were searched. The operation resulted in the arrest of Isaac Illescas, a primary suspect in the attempted murder on the LSPD Detective and kown gang member. Illescas was taken into custody and booked for Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm. Another female member of the 38th Street Gang and primary suspect got shot by LSSD Deputies as she refused to comply with verbal orders and pulled a gun on the Deputies, opening fire on them. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. The LSSD respects the family's wish to withhold the name of the deceased in this case.
A second individual, not initially linked to the May 28 incident, was also taken into custody for illegal firearm possession.
